Overview
Liver disease has emerged as a major cause of morbidity and mortality in individuals infected with HIV, including those infected with HBV and HCV. The HIV & Liver Disease 2023 conference is designed to address the increasingly prevalent clinical issues and challenges associated with HIV and liver disease. The conference brings together internationally renowned experts and clinicians from a variety of disciplines, including hepatology and infectious diseases, who will present and discuss the most current and clinically relevant information pertinent to improving patient outcomes.

This year the conference will be held live, in-person. It features General sessions, with presentations by faculty experts, Meet-the Professor lunch roundtable discussions, Oral presentations, and Poster presentations.

The conference will be held at Snake River Lodge, Teton Village, Wyoming.

Registration
Registration is required
$300 (MD, DO, MD/PhD, PhD) 
$125 (RPH, PA, RN) 
$75 (Trainee {Fellow, Resident, Med Student})*

Scholarships*:
The Prospective Fellowship awardees will submit an application and an original research abstract 
to the Conference Organizing Committee.  They will select the top 10-15 applicants/abstracts. 
Top Fellowship awardees will be invited to present their data as an oral presentation; the remaining 
awardees will present their data in poster form during the Poster Session on Thursday evening. The 
Trainee/Young Investigator awards are intended to cover the costs of airfare, hotel room and 
non-conference meals associated with attending the conference; in accordance with ACCME/AMA guidelines.  
Funding by the NIH.

Objectives
As a result of participating in this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Review the epidemiology of HIV infection and liver disease in co-infected patients.
  2. Discuss current treatment guidelines for the management of HIV-infectcd patients with HBV and HCV.
  3. Describe issues applicable to management of HBV and other liver disease resource limited areas
  4. Explain issues of aging of the liver and other organs in the setting of HIV.
  5. Explain the pathogenesis of liver injury & disease progression in patients infected with HIV.
  6. Describe the effect of alcohol on liver injury and ways to reduce harm from alcohol and other substances.
  7. Report on the drugs currently used and to be used for the treatment of viral hepatitis.
  8. Aalyze the progression of decompensatcd liver and HCC and the role of liver transplantation in those with HIV and liver disease.
  9. Assess the risk of antiretroviral therapy (ART) injury in patients with ESLD.
  10. Summarize the psychiatric difficulties that can develop in HIV infected patients with liver disease.
  11. Examine treatment outcomes in injection drug users co-infected with HIV and liver disease.
  12. Recognize emerging virus infections including HDV & HEV as well as NAFLD/NASH

Accreditation

The University of Cincinnati is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. 

The University of Cincinnati designates this live activity for a maximum of 14.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
