Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience Grand Rounds

Presentation 1 | Impact of Counseling Patients of Childbearing Age and Potential of the Risks and Potential Teratogenic Effects of Psychotropic Medications

Objectives:
1. Identify and describe clinical indications for counseling patients of childbearing potential of the risks and potential teratogenic effects of psychotropic medications
2. Analyze upper-level psychiatry resident awareness, understanding, and current practice patterns related to counseling patients of childbearing potential prior to or at follow up visits for prescribing psychotropic medications
3. Measure whether implementing brief in-person and email-based education increased rates of counseling and or increased resident awareness and education around counseling patients in outpatient clinics
4. Recognize and describe limitations to these interventions and areas of future development and growth

Presentation 2 | Psychiatry Resident Comfort in Managing Agitation in Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities in Acute Psychiatric Settings

Objectives:
1. Identify the unique challenges in caring for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in acute psychiatric settings
2. Assess and improve resident psychiatrist comfort level in caring for individuals with IDD in acute psychiatric settings
3. Recognize the role of targeted quality improvement interventions and Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycles in addressing care gaps for marginalized patient groups
4. Discuss findings from our project, ongoing areas of improvement and future directions
