39706 - Perioperative Crisis Management and Clinical Decision Making

The Perioperative Crisis Management and Clinical Decision-Making course is a 10-credit CME program focused on managing high-stakes perioperative emergencies. Using crisis resource management (CRM) principles and case-based scenarios, it builds evidence-based decision-making, teamwork, and clinical judgment under pressure. Topics include airway and oxygenation failure, hemodynamic collapse, massive transfusion, metabolic disturbances, obstetric emergencies, and acute drug reactions. Modules use multiple-choice questions with detailed explanations to reinforce knowledge and highlight common pitfalls. The course enhances competence in emergency response, promotes effective communication, and strengthens safety-focused decision-making. It is intended for anesthesiologist assistants, residents, and perioperative clinicians seeking structured, evidence-based crisis readiness training.

1. Analyze the causes of perioperative airway, hemodynamic, metabolic, transfusion, and obstetric emergencies;
2. Prioritize simultaneous clinical tasks in high-acuity scenarios using evidence-based algorithms and resource utilization principles;
3. Integrate physiologic, laboratory, and procedural data to guide targeted, condition-specific interventions;
4. Apply crisis resource management principles to coordinate multidisciplinary responses over complex perioperative emergencies;
5. Formulate adaptive anesthetic plans that anticipate complications and adjust to evolving intraoperative and postoperative conditions.
