Target Audience
Specialties - Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Radiology

Credits
AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ (0.50 hours), AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ Designated (0.50 hours)

Overview

This is an enduring activity based upon a live presentation of the role of serotonin and its impact on carcinoid syndrome delivered at the 2019 NANETS annual conference in Boston, Massachusetts.

This video-based program features peer-to-peer expert exchange and authoritative insights, opinions, and perspectives related to neuroendocrine tumors (NETS) and carcinoid syndrome.

Serotonin plays a central role in the physiology of carcinoid syndrome by promoting intestinal motility and therefore the pathophysiology of serotonin is important for physicians to understand in order to provide symptom management and better patient care.

This program will give learners a novel approach to better understanding the mechanistic basis of cellular function, the role that serotonin plays on hormonal dysregulation, symptoms and management and an enhanced understanding of the mechanism of action of serotonin in the body.

Objectives

As a result of participating in this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Discuss why serotonin is important to understand in order to best manage patients with carcinoid syndrome;
  2. Discuss with an increased comfort level the pathophysiology and mechanistic activity of serotonin and its role in disease so that they may provide the right therapy for the right patient at the right time.

Registration

There are no fees for participating in and receiving CME credit for this enduring material activity.

Accreditation

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of the University of Cincinnati and Intellisphere, LLC.
