Overview

Expert-authored commentaries providing expert insight into the management of type 2 diabetes in older adults including individualization of treatment goals, use of fixed-ratio combination insulin and GLP-1 RA, and management considerations in the long-term care facility setting.

The goal of this activity is to improve the knowledge and competence of geriatricians, gerontological nurse practitioners, consultant and senior care pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals regarding the management of older adults with diabetes, including those in a long-term care setting.

Objectives

As a result of participating in this activity, participants should be able to:


  1. Identify patient specific-factors that should be considered when determining individualized glycemic goals for older adults with T2D;
  2. Describe the efficacy and safety from clinical study results to support the use of FRC basal insulin and GLP-1 RAs in appropriate patients;
  3. Integrate FRC basal insulin and GLP-1 RAs into the care of appropriate patients according to guideline recommendations and patient factors/preferences;
  4. Detail important patient and drug considerations that can help ensure safe and effective T2D pharmacotherapy in older patients residing in LTCFs.
