Overview

This issue addresses concerns involving carotid disease and diagnosis, venous disease and treatment, transcranial Doppler and teaching sonographic principles. 



Objectives
After reading and studying the papers used for CME in the Winter 2018 Issue of the Journal for Vascular Ultrasound, participants will be able to:

  1. Define the need for ECA artery stenosis identification.
  2. Describe the methodology used to determine ECA stenosis.
  3. Define the correct breakoff in velocity for ECA stenoses of 50 – 99%.
  4. Discuss the problems with the current method of determining carotid intimal-medial thickness (cIMT).
  5. Define the problems associated with manual computation of geometric total plaque area (gTPA).
  6. Define DL.
  7. Define CEAP.
  8. Describe the CEAP classification designators.
  9. Explain the conclusion of this paper regarding the categorical definition of venous reflux.
  10. Define Principle 1
  11. Define Principle 2
  12. Discuss the ways in which Principle 2 machines perform compared to the older Principle 1 machines.
  13. Explain the value of using TCD to monitor for MES.
  14. Define EM.
  15. Discuss the findings of the use of contrast agents contiguous with TCD for EM.
