Liver disease is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in people living with HIV and are a result of factors such as viral hepatitis, metabolic perturbations, and substance use. This conference addresses the increasingly prevalent clinical issues and challenges associated with HIV and liver disease. It brings together internationally renowned experts and clinicians, including hepatology and infectious diseases, to discuss the most current and clinically relevant info pertinent to improving patient outcomes.

Objectives
As a result of participating in this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Review the epidemiology of HIV infection and liver disease in patients with HIV and liver disease
  2. Discuss current treatment guidelines for the management of patients with HIV and viral hepatitis coinfection (HBV and HCV)
  3. Explain issues of aging of the liver and other organs in the setting of HIV
  4. Explain the pathogenesis of liver injury & disease progression in patients with HIV
  5. Describe the effect of alcohol on liver injury and ways to reduce harm from alcohol and other substances
  6. Report on the drugs currently used and to be used for the treatment of viral hepatitis
  7. Analyze the progression of decompensatcd liver and HCC and the role of liver transplantation in those with HIV and liver disease
  8. Assess the risk of antiretroviral therapy (ART) injury in patients with ESLD
  9. Summarize the psychiatric difficulties that can develop in patients with HIV and liver disease
  10. Examine treatment outcomes in injection drug users with or at risk for HIV and liver disease
