41143 - Taking the Initiative to Optimize Lipid-Lowering Therapy in High-Risk Patients With ASCVD: A Call to Action for Cardiologists - Enduring

Managing lipid levels is a key component of lowering risk levels for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). While high levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) are a well-established risk factor, emerging data reveal a link between lipoprotein a [Lp(a)] and ASCVD, contributing to ASCVD risk independent of LDL-C.

When statins fail to help patients reach their lipid targets, newer nonstatin therapies including proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) inhibitors play an essential role. However, many patients either do not receive guideline-recommended therapy or do not adhere to prescribed treatments, leading to a higher risk of morbidity and mortality. What steps can cardiologists and advanced practice providers take to optimize lipid-lowering therapy and improve outcomes?
